Kahren was leaving for Russia so i wanted to get the car tuned and boost turned up finally. after messing with the powerfc to get the boost controller working for a while. started tuning everything was going well then we heard a noise.... pull off and i now have a bridge ported shakey idle... something broke. drove it home. same thing. i guessed it was a broken or stuck side seal because the car revved up fine and actually drove normal. did a compression test and my guess was right about the side seal. the car did not lean out but who knows how healthy the engine was. we doubled the boost while tuning!

Unburied the car from about 3 feet of snow. Drove it to work the past few days. Really need to get the new tires put on shimmy's on the highway due to flat spots on the crazy old tires. Ordered a tanabe rear strut to replace the weak oem unit and new headlight covers.... crazy!

today i installed those remflex gaskets. worked out pretty good. i have a crappy megan racing midpipe and the bottom of the flanges were leaking. Then PMU D1 rear pads and also changed passenger side differential axle seal. Diff was leaking for a few years i think tons of crud on that side. i had a clunk ? i magically fixed it. while i was under there i noticed the PPF and driveshaft are new. Still have the mazda tags on them. Been driving this to work when its not snowing, 17mpg combined mostly highway

I'll explain my extremely long day off weds and what happened with the car. Got up @ 8am. On the road by 830 in the truck with trailer behind it. Get to Covas house @ 10am. It's slightly raining and his car is in the garage. I decide to just work on it outside in the intermittent rainfall. FUN! I special ordered a belt to use the aftermarket pulleys i bought until my idler pulley comes next week. Installed the wp and alt pulley and new belt. That all went fine esp since i've had it apart three times now. Still has to come apart once more for the idler to go on along with both new belts. Now the fun begins, my car had pretty much every stock emission component still on it. I ordered up a complete banzai racing block off plate kit. This meant removing the upper intake manifold, taking apart the emissions rack etc etc. I think i spent five hours start to finish UIM off to UIM on and all block offs installed. The biggest problem i had was getting the double throttle plates out. The tiny screws that holds the plates on the rod are red locktited. All of them stripped. Covas drilled them out and everything else went pretty straight forward. The car now has three vacuum lines. Stock it has 82 or something insane. I get the car together at about 5pm. Add coolant. Fire it up. Exhaust is crazy loud. Did i forget something ??? Nope the crappy exhaust gaskets on the midpipe we reused are shot and leaking. I saw screw it not gonna mess with it now. Take 30 minutes. Load the car on the trailer and pack up the truck with all the miscellaneous parts that were removed or extra. Call Kahren and head to CT. I had no idea from Covas house to CT was the same distance as from my house in NJ. Oh well. It's still raining. I drive 2.5 hours. Get there are 9pm. Unload the car in a nearby mall parking lot. Some 80 year old mall cop, keeps driving circles around me unloading the car but does not say anything. I proceed to ignore him the entire time. We drop off the truck/trailer in the commuter lot nearby and drive the fd to kahrens house. Stop at MCD's for a smoothie first though. Wait a while for it to cool down. Rotaries get hot FAST... I pop in a brass npt port for the turbo. Kahren takes off the rubber house that is current working as a cold pipe. Starts fabbing up the cold pipe. Wound up taking three pieces to get it right. Comes out awesome. Takes about 30 minutes. I stare at the crapping looking hotpipe off the turbo i whipped together with random couplers and 90 degree bend. And suggest we move the reducer to the turbo then he can use the ubend to make it one piece. He agrees. Starts chopping welding etc. I am now bored sitting around and decide to change the midpipe gaskets since they were complete garbage. Also install the brace under the midpipe that was taken off when the double cat pipe was on for emissions. While i'm under there i notice a little puddle of oil.. awesome. I assume Kahren took off the oil feed or something nope. Its getting late now and i have work in the morning. Around 1030pm when we are finally done, Neither of us have eaten dinner. Take the car out of the garage. Drive it to the trailer load it up then We head to the Goldroc diner for coffee and omelette's. Delicious and enough caffeine so i can now make it home 2.5hrs. I fill up the truck again with gas. Grand total on gas today $110 only.... SICK! Does not include tolls which sometimes double when pulling a trailer... I head off driving through crazy fog. Why is there always crazy fog when i drove home from CT after midnight. I get home right at 3am! This day seemed to never end but i was very happy. The car is pretty much ready to be tuned now and it is home, instead of sitting 1.5 hours away, so i can actually work on it a little at a time. Tomorrow i'm going to jack it up and figure out what is going with the oil leak. I'm going to assume its the oil feed. It had a rubber hose to join the two metal pieces... i bet its broken or something. Anyway here is a picture of the completed engine bay thanks to Covas, Me and Kahren

Umm. Here is what's going on with the fd. I took off the smoking twins and made the car n/a so it could be driven still. Also installed Dang Drifters modded knuckles. FD HAVE NO STEERING ANGLE ITS CRAZY!!! It's hanging out at prews house for now so he can get his own car back together.... He was bored and started cleaning my rims. Next month it will go for the NEWLY started NJ emissions inspection. Here is a pic of how she sits. Its been slow so far. I have some parts piled up for it but they have to wait to get installed... Still need to order new headlight covers etc. It never ends!

Spent sunday working on cars. Hooked up the trailer, took my car off it. Inspected all the turbo bolts. One missing on the turbo, one missing on the downpipe... Took off all the downpipe bolts and changed all the turbo bolt washers to nord locks instead of regular lock washers. I think the problem with regular lock washers on the turbo is it gets too hot and the lock washer gets soft and turns into a regular flat washer. Anyway i had to order more nord locks for the downpipe. When i have time i need to purchase and replace the last turbo bolt also. I had a random bolt in there to get me thru the day but it wasnt a grade 8.8 hardened bolt so it started stretching...lol

Hopefully the car finally gets tuned before 7/11 . Still have a bunch of other things to do. Lost 1/3 of my sideskirt when i delaminated a tire last event... blah blah

In other news Steve and I are going to DOW with his corvette. We replaced the brake pads and rotors front and rear and lowered it. Also put some C6 wheels on it. Should be fun since my car wont be ready

I got everything done on the to do list. YAY. Two more things to do tomorrow night though. One is replace the clamp on the oil drain line. The second is check the midpipe, i hear a leak down there. I have a feeling there is no gasket...

Drove the car and got on it in first gear. shot off the hotpipe. it previously had tbolt clamps but i put on new worm gear clamps... not good enough. i put the tbolts back on should be good now

also my lower hotpipe was bent. heated it up and made it back into a circle. that was definetely a boost leak before.

I CAN'T WAIT TO DRIVE IT AT ECB.... wg sounds insane too

Dropped off the car last night to get the dumptube and midpipe made. Can't wait to get it back! I doubt there will be time for a retune before ECB though... oh well. Have a few other things to do before the end of next week. we'll see if they all get done... i doubt it lol

HIN Pro AM and other stuff

I went to etown proam/hin on the 16th. only 4 drivers showed/regged for proam so it was cancelled. awesome! i'm in the process of getting my money back for registration. instead we did a demo for the HIN crowd. it was pretty fun but i managed to damage my car of course. melted my bmc reservoir, broke a front fender more, i have a small coolant drip leak.

Sunday i took off the top mount one fab setup and installed the bottom mount neukin.com setup. everything is better about the bottom mount. its easier to install. everything fits better. it wont kill the bmc. i am in love. still need the midpipe and dumptube fabricated and to fix a few other things. here is how it sits right now

Maintenance... sucks lol

Decided to do a little much needed maintenance today in between the raining. started off first by bolting my fender back on? it was falling off? its broken but i have not yet put the new ones on anyway. its on and secure again. i noticed a little smoke coming from the back crank case vent hose. i reused the stock heatshield... well i guess it was getting too hot and smoking. checked the hose its fine. so i ripped off that crappy 20 year old heat shielding. i bought some fire sleeve stuff but its too small. oh well. when i get time i'll buy some of the correct size. after that i decided to FINALLY fix my cluster water temp wire. the wire snapped off at the connector so i replaced the connector with a new spade connector. it will be nice to have that working again so i dont have to keep checking the powerfc commander. it was also annoying having a dead gauge. pulled off the front tires as they have been on there for i dont know a year and countless events. going to visit george for dinner and have him mount fresh tires front and rear on the black tenzo rims for the time trials at pocono friday. we'll see how this *drift* car does... it should be a ton of fun. all this little stuff takes forever! thursday i need to change oil and filter and hopefully install subframe spacers ??? we'll see if the spacers actually happen!

I figure it is time to finally do something. The car is going to get repainted and a new kit i have put on. no more broken bumper and sideskirts and fenders!

I'm super excited as this is the first brand new manifold this car has ever seen... Its also unique that it is bottom mount and wont kill my brake master cylinder like top mount setups do.
